Egg Nog
On Christmas Eve, we went over to Molly and Jon’s house for a nice dinner and to open some early presents (two days of presents is better than one).
Of course, no Christmas festivity is complete without egg nog. When asked how to make egg nog, Sophie replied:
“First, you take an egg and then you add some nog– you have to grate it– for the speckles. Then you add powdered sugar for thick-i-ness. Also, add milk. And that’s it.”
We thought it was so cute that we told Molly when we got to her house. (I especially liked the powdered sugar part, knowing that she has seen me add cornstarchto gravy to thicken it. And we all know that powdered sugar is just sweet cornstarch, right?) Molly, being the indulgent grandmother that she is, took Sophie into the kitchen and made the reciepe with her, substituting freshly grated nutmeg for the “nog”. It turned out very well, considering that powdered sugar is not an ingredient in ANY egg nog recipe. Of course, Molly is a master cook, so her skills probably contributed to the reciepe’s sucess (she could figure out the correct proportions and such).
The recipe is apparently also very suited to adding whiskey.
